The electoral commission chairperson has hit back at critics alleging that 8 staff who recently quit the election regulating body was sacked from office following corrupt tendencies.
On Tuesday, information went viral on social media and other platforms that President Museveni had ordered the sacking of 8 senior Electoral Commission officers.
Among them included; Jotham Taremwa- Head Public Relations, Joseph Lwanga-Director Finance and administrator, Godfrey Wanyoto -head of procurement, Sam Rwakoojo-secretary, Pontius Namugera -Information Technology director, Edgar Kasigwa- data specialists, and Jordan Lubega -Administrator networks.
Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama came out to set the record straight saying no one was fired but the decision was taken by all the 8 to retire early.
Unconfirmed reports had indicated that the group was sacked for throwing out a bid a German company that was reportedly recommended by the president to print the 2021 ballot papers for the government.
The company had reportedly finalized a joint project deal with Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) to print money and other security printing deals for the government.
