Despite the President officially announcing that the Boda Boda business resumes today the 27th of July 2020, the business has not started off on a good note for many eager Boda operators.
Most Boda operators have shifted blame to their customers of being rigid in accepting the Standard Operating Procedures-SOPs.
The Boda Boda riders who claim to be ready and set with the necessary SOPs that include wearing a helmet, mask, providing sanitizers, and a book to register details of all their customers are now faced with stiff resistance from defiant customers.
They claim the biggest challenge they are faced with is customers’ refusal to register their National Identification Numbers- NIN and phone numbers saying these are both private details.
Some of the Boda-boda riders in the metropolitan areas of Kasanga, Kabalagala, Bunga, Kawempe, Bwaise, Maganjo Kalerwe, Mpererwe, Ntinda, Bukoto among others claim their customers insist on being carried without records which is hard to implement.
Now the Boda riders are seeking intervention from the government saying the conditions in place have made it impossible for them to work and earn a decent living.
They argue that not being able to carry passengers puts them out of business yet they are choking on loans and struggling to survive.
Last week while President Museveni was resuming the Boda Boda business , he made it clear that every rider must obtain a book to register particulars of their clients for easier tracking in the event that a person tests positive for COVID -19.
