Police in Kampala is yet to look into CCTV footage it has obtained involving an angry mob that fired back at police officers following a minor accident in Nsangi along Kampala- Masaka Road.
The incident took place on Sunday near Horizon campus Nabingo when 2 traffic police officers on routine patrol reportedly stopped 2 rides for inspection.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the two officers who were on a normal routine patrol ordered the rides Reg no UBB 409 S and Reg no.UAK 205 W to park at the roadside but a few minutes into the inspection a speeding trailer knocked one of them.
Luke Owoyesigiyre the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the trailer Reg no UBA 854Q/UBA 455Q was headed to Kampala from Masaka when it knocked the ride Reg no.UAK 205 from the rear and halted before the driver fled.
No one was injured in the accident.
Owoyesigiyre explains that after the incident, an angry mob started pelting stones and bricks at the traffic officers accusing them of instigating the accident by stopping the two rides.
He says the panting police officers were forced to seek refuge in another vehicle that luckily whisked them away to safety, however, the Motorcycle they left behind was burned down.
Owoyesigirye who highly condemned this act now says investigations are ongoing to ascertain what exactly caused the accident and also find out those responsible for burning down the motorcycle.
He says they have already obtained the necessary CCTV footage to aid in the investigations.
