Edgar Kyamunywa, a resident of Masanafu Zone Bukulugi tried to set his body on fire at about 9 pm on Wednesday night.
Witness reports indicate that Kyamunywa decided to kill himself because he was constantly turned down by a woman who refused to accept his romantic signals for a relationship.
Kyamunywa’s own children narrated how he stormed the gate to the house where the woman lives and pleaded with her to come out but she instead snubbed him and asked that he lives immediately.
A broken-hearted Kyamunywa after many attempts to persuade his admirer to come out fell on deaf ears chose to pull out a matchbox and started burning himself.
His fearless act attracted residents from the neighborhood who hurried to stop the fire to his body and later rushed
Kyamunywa to Kiriddu hospital but in critical condition.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police mouthpiece Luke Owoyesigirye says investigations are underway to establish exactly what happened.
This is the second incident involving attempted suicide under similar circumstances. Recently, a man in Natete attempted committed suicide after killing a woman for rejecting his sexual advances.
