Court has charged and remanded to jail the State Minister for Labour, Mwesigwa Rukutana for acts of violence at Rushenyi county on 5th September 2020 the NRM parliamentary primaries.

Rukutana on Monday afternoon appeared before the Ntungamo Magistrates Court court and was charged with seven counts of Attempted Murder, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Malicious Damage, and Threatening Violence.

He was charged together with three of his bodyguards and remanded to Kakiika prison, Kyamugorani in Mbarara.

The bodyguards are identified as Egec Paul, Kozala Faizal and Okello John Bosco.

Court heard from the prosecution that the minister, who is also the MP for Rushenyi Constituency on September 5th 2020 at Kagugu Village in Ntungamo district, unlawfully attempted to cause the death of one Daniel Rweburungi.

This development comes a few hours after President Yoweri Museveni promised to have all the perpetrators of injustices that were portrayed during the NRM primaries prosecuted in the courts of law.

He made the sound warning on Monday while speaking out for the first time about the conduct of State Minister for Labour and Industrial Development Mwesigwa Rukutana during the NRM primaries on Friday.

Museveni who had no kind words for Rukutana took to his social media and asserted that the distressed Minister will not escape the courts of law over the violence exhibited in Rushenyi county during the NRM primaries.

“The Minister Rukutana is in jail and will be prosecuted,” Museveni said.
