All political aspirants who have pinned up their posters in unauthorized places in city center risk being prosecuted in the courts of law.
The stern warning has been given by the acting spokesperson for the Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA Daniel NuweAbine against politicians who are stubbornly littering the city center with campaign posters, in addition, to those putting up business flyers.
He notes that the posters have been pinned on un gazetted areas like traffic signposts which interferes with the road- users who need to view the traffic signs.
He says KCCA has given political contenders a period of 30 days from the 7th September 2020 to either remove posters or risk facing prosecution.
NuweAbine however says KCCA will also engage in the removal of the unauthorized posters should the deadline clock and nothing has been done
The process for those seeking to pin posters or advertise in the city involves getting permission from the Authority as stipulated in the National Physical Planning Standards and Guidelines of 2011.
The National Physical Planning Standards and Guidelines of 2011 prohibits the advertisement signs from obstructing visibility at a bend, junction, or other hazards, interfere with the road- users’ view of traffic signs, distract road users’ attention at hazardous sites.
KCCA doesn’t charge any fees for outdoor advertisement since it declared the fees set and gazetted by the authority in 2019 as illegal.
