The Forum for Democratic Change-FDC has lashed out at the independent Electoral commission-EC for not engaging the public in sufficient sensitization to voters during the polling processes and ahead of the 2021 general elections.
Speaking during a brief presser on Monday morning, the FDC Spokes[erson semmujju Nganda says the public is not even aware of the basics like who is eligible to vote and to be voted, whether nominations are open or closed for electoral positions among others.
Semujju cited a case in point of the just concluded youth elections saying out of more than 70 percent of registered voters in a country predominantly youthful, only 30 percent participated.
He noted that most polling stations that could accommodate 2000 voters ended up having only 200 due to lack of publicity.
Semujju says the EC owes Ugandans an explanation as to why they are not supplying sufficient information to the public yet they continue rolling out national activities.
He says the ruling National Resistance Movement has taken advantage of tax payer’s money to do more sensitization at all levels even more than the country’s electoral body.
