Police are investigating a fatal accident that happened this morning along the Masaka-Mbarara Highway claiming 3 lives on spot and injuring 4 others.
The ill-fated accident that took place at the Nkoni trading center involved a trailer registration and a Fuso truck that was fully loaded with bananas.
The Fuso truck was headed to Kampala from Mbarara while the trailer was heading to Rwanda.
The driver of the Fuso truck, a turn boy, and a woman suspected to be the owner of the goods all died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses claim, the trailer lost control and crashed into the Fuso however instead of trying to save the victims a hungry crowd stormed the bloody scene and instead started stealing bunches of bananas from the truck.
The Southern regional police spokesperson Muhamad Nsubuga says police is yet to ascertain the identities of the victims of the crash.
Nsubuga says they have taken the bodies of the deceased to Masaka hospital for postmortem while the injured are being treated.
