The news of the Kampala Woman MP Naggayi Nabilah Sempala taking the National Unity Platform-NUP party ticket for the Kampala lord mayor race come 2021 has not come as a surprise to many especially after she declared her intentions to stand on that ticket.

Nabilah who recently ditched the Forum for Democratic Change -FDC party after she was denied a chance to stand for lord mayorship because of the new entrant Erias Lukwago sought after refuge at the contentious NUP party.

This followed the resignation of Latif Sebaggala the former NUP party flag bearer who quit for the good of the opposition, a choice that has since been interpreted as a step down for the incumbent Lukwago.

Nabilah attained 166 points against Hajj Kadra Ssali with whom they were contesting for the same post.

Nabilah who hailed the NUP for empowering women vowed to unseat Lukwago in the 2021 general polls saying Kampala deserved a fresh lord mayor.

Nabilah narrated how she was treated like trash at the FDC party when she took her forms to stand for lord mayor even after the 15 years she had spent at the party.

She praised NUP as a party that has wiped away her tears, accepted her saying that FDC mistreats women which is one of the reasons why notable women like Winnie Kiiza have since quit.

She noted that FDC will shrink with a shock when NUP takes the top seats in Kampala and Uganda with a fresh mayor, President, and a new beginning.

Come 2021, the race is expected to be tight between the incumbent –Erias Lukwago-FDC, Musician Ragga Dee-NRM, Business Woman Beatrice Kayanja –DP, and Nabilah Nagaayi –NUP.
