Parliament has convened today for a special sitting to honor Ali Kirunda kivejinja the second deputy prime minister, Robinah Sentongo Kyotera Woman MP who succumbed to COVID 19.

The motion was moved by the 1st deputy Prime minister Gen Moses Ali in honor of Kivejinja.

He says the late Kiveijinja served the country with great honor and dedication.

At the time of his demise was the 2nd Deputy prime minister and Minister of the East African Community Affairs in the Ugandan Cabinet.

He was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. Previously, he served as the Minister for Relief and Social Rehabilitation, Internal Affairs, and as Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda.

He died on 19 December 2020 and his death was said to have been caused by the raging COVID which he was reported to be battling with for about a fortnight at Mulago Referral Hospital.

Sentongo on the other hand died at 58years and by that time she had been representing Kyotera on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket.

In 2020, parliament lost 3 legislators to COVID -19 in a span of 3 months including  Rehema Watongola (Kamuli Municipality) and Faith Alupo (Pallisa Woman MP).

Also the former Masaka district woman MP and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the same seat, Freda Nanziri  Mubanda to COVID 19.
