UPDF gets COVID-19 Vaccine
As a show of solidarity in the safety of the Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccine, Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF have officially rolled out the exercise to its soldiers.
This comes after the first Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Wednesday took the vaccine while launching a similar exercise at Special Forces headquarters -SFC in Entebbe where he commands.
On Thursday morning soldiers also paraded themselves at the the Senior Officers Diagnostic Hospital in Mbuya to receive their 1st jabs.
Minister of defense Adolf Mwesigye was the first in line to take the vaccine before others proceeded.
UPDF gets COVID-19 Vaccine
Mwesige who dismissed claims the vaccine was unsafe, urged soldiers and Ugandans to have faith in their scientists and the vaccine to safeguard their lives.
Also present was the deputy army spokesperson, Lt Col Deo Akiiki,who said receiving the vaccine is not mandatory but an act of discipline.
Akiiki has also encouraged Ugandans to embrace the vaccination process like their leaders have done .
Akiiki says the army has received enough vaccines to cover all soldiers as it is being rolled out in phases.
UPDF soldiers have been working closely with the ministry of health to contain the covid 19 pandemic.
Uganda received its first consignment of 864,000 vaccines and over 900,000 donations a week ago and has since rolled out vaccination .
