Police in the Kiira region are investigating a tacky security guard for shooting at a 27year old man and badly injuring him.
The guard whose identity remains undisclosed police is attached to Securex Security.
The guard with 3 others reportedly stormed the residence of one Ivan Maali in the night, accused him of theft before firing 3 bullets at him.
The guard and his colleagues said Maali was behind recent robberies on houses at Lubas road in Southern Division, Jinja City where he resides.
They then fired 3 bullets in the air and shot him with one on his left leg. Maali was rushed to in a critical condition to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital’s emergency unit where he is currently receiving treatment.
In his defense, Maali says he is no thief but he only woke up that same night to respond to an alarm from his neighbor Hadijah Nakayenga who was attacked by robbers in the night.
Nakayenga says that her neighbors managed to scare off the suspected robbers but, she was surprised to see private security guards in the area.
“The situation had normalized and the suspects had already fled, however, the guards from the neighbouring building stormed our area, started firing live ammunition yet we had earlier on contacted the police,” she says.
The Acting Kiira Central Police Commander, Maurice Niyonzima says that the suspect will be charged with attempted murder.
