UPDF Major Denies Shooting Man
Security forces are still hunting for 2 other suspects on the run in connection to shooting dead a 43yr old man in a bar at Nateete.
The suspects including an Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF Major attached to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence-CMI and 2 others whose identities remain unknown are accused of opening fire on a man during a drinking spree.
The deceased Magidu Mugwanya, 43, a resident of Kibumbiro B zone in Busega Parish in Rubaga Division was gunned down by an unidentified reveller following a deep heated argument at the Bar.
Brig. Flavia Byekwaso the UPDF spokesperson says the UPDF officer at the rank of Major is currently under detention but denies shooting the deceased.
‘‘he denied pulling the trigger, we’re still looking for two other people on the run, but the investigations are still ongoing in this matter, and the suspect who pulled the trigger shall be arrested anytime,” said Byekwaso.
Cops attached to Natete Police station have in their custody exhibits including 2 bullets cartridges from a pistol and unspecified items from the deceased’s vehicle.

However The UPDF First Division commander, Maj Gen Samuel Kawagga promised justice to the family.
Bars were shut down in March last year in a national lockdown after a directive from President Yoweri Museveni to contain the spread of Covid 19.
However, addicted revellers continue to illegally sneak into their local pubs and joints, operating underground for drinking sprees despite the lockdown.
