Police at wandegeya is investigating circumstances under which a fire that broke out on Tuesday night at Wova auto garage, Mini triangle zone, Makerere I parish, Kawempe division destroying property worth millions of shillings.
The fire that started at 7pm razed down several business including four furniture workshops and show rooms,a restaurant, two stores and eight vehicles parked at the garage.
Luke Owoyesigirye the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson says preliminary investigations indicate that a short circuit could have caused the fire,but investigations are still ongoing.
He says the fire brigade from Kawempe Police station arrived at the scene on time and managed to extinguish the fire before it would wreck more havock.
Kalim Jemba of prpprietor of Wova Auto garage, says the four furniture workshops lost sofa-set chairs valued at 50 Million Shillings . He said although the fire brigade from Kawempe Police station arrived on time, nothing was saved.
“I was not on ground when the fire happened but between the time it broke out and the time I arrived here, I would say that police was here on time and put out the fire, but four shops and the garage in the middle had property badly destroyed,we have heard that the fire was triggered by a short circuit,”he said
Some of the owners to the furniture shops have estimated the property damaged at 150 million shillings, in addition they say the fires have rendered close to 100 people jobless .
