Now you want us to do what?

Ugandans have yet again come out so fast to deploy one of the most recent phrases in the country ‘now you want us to do what?’ in relation to talk of an assassination plot against the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.

Yesterday while chairing the Parliament Session, Anita Among revealed that “I have got an assassination report, my car is being followed, they want to kill me.”

“I have got a report and I have only shared it with the LoP; I have got an assassination report wanting to assassinate me: Rt Hon Speaker.”

However, Among revealed that she will not be cowed.

Now you want us to do what?

“Whoever thinks the he/she is going to assassinate Anita, I was put in this chair by God; if anybody wants, I have my village to go to; I will serve until I get tired,” Among said.

However, as always, Ugandans reacted to the call – taking it for a joke on grounds that the Speaker of Parliament is one of the most guarded public officials in the country.

The Speaker’s security has reportedly been further enhanced.

In June last year, Works and Transport Minister, Gen. Katumba Wamala, survived an assassination attempt in Kisasi. His daughter, Brenda Nantongo, and driver, Haruna Kayongo, died in the incident.

Who wants among dead?

In the most recent past, two events defined the Speaker’s public and private life.

For instance, she officially got married to Eng. Moses Magogo (MP, Budiope East). However, it is reported that the FUFA boss has other female partners in his life.

Secondly, early this week, Among spearheaded a campaign to block East Africa’s music/dance festival, Nyege Nyege.

However, government cleared the event to go as planned from 15th to 18th September 2022 at Itanda Falls in Jinja.

According to the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, “Ugandans should enjoy their country, provided they are not breaking the law.”
