A serial thief recorded on video stealing money from a shop has been arrested and detained at the Central Police Station, CPS in Kampala.

The suspect has been identified as Jane Wananeza.

In a video doing rounds on social media, Wananeza, clad in a green floral dress and blue coat walks into a shop in downtown Kampala and approaches the attendant whom she asks to try on shoes. As the attendant bends to help her in fitting the shoes, Wananeza leans towards the counter, quickly grabs a black bag and pulls out several fifty thousand shilling notes. She later buys one pair of shoes before leaving the shop.

However, she was picked up by the police from Buganda Road Court where she had gone for the mention of another case on theft she is involved in.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Mouthpiece says Wananeza was captured with one million shillings she stole from the shop attendant identified as Sarah Mugerwa.

He says the suspect is currently being held at the Central Police Station in Kampala on theft charges awaiting her appearance in the courts of law before the end of this week.

Onyango describes Wananeza is a serial shoplifter who usually gets bail shortly after she is accused of theft.
