Police in Luwero district have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of a 38- year- old local businesswoman.
The victim, identified as Nantaba Jalia, 38, was found dead in a house in Mabale zone, Kasana town council, early on the morning of May 29, 2024.
The suspect, Senyonga Joel, 40, a taxi driver, is allegedly befriended Nantabaat night on May 28, 2024 and the fresh couple spent the night together at Senyonga’s house, smashing each other multiple times, until around 3:00 AM when Nantaba reportedly collapsed and died in bed.
Locals give conflicting accounts about the circumstances leading to her death. Some claim a possible medical condition, while others suspect foul play.
Savannah Regional Police Spokesman, Sam Twineamazima, stated that Senyonga attempted to dispose of the body by asking a colleague for help. The colleague, however, reported the incident to the police.
“Upon receiving the report, our team traced and arrested the suspect, who led us to the house where the body was found,” said Twineamazima. “
The suspect is currently being held at Luwero Central Police Station on charges of suspected murder.
Twineamazima reveals that scene of the crime officers (SOCO) and the homicide squad from Luwero CPS have collected all relevant evidence and statements have been recorded from witnesses and local leaders to aid in the investigation.
Nantaba’s body has been transported to Luwero Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
