Shock and panic gripped Kyeyagalire Village in Kiboga District when a four-month-old baby girl was snatched from her parents during a charity event, only to be dramatically rescued hours later by vigilant church catechists.
Baby Kemigisha Anita was stolen on December 20, 2025, as her parents, members of the Altezza Charity Group, were distributing donations to vulnerable families in Nkandwa Parish.
According to SSP Lameck Kigozi, Police Spokesperson, Wamala Region, a strange woman approached the baby’s mother pretending to help. Sensing danger, the mother refused and instead handed the baby to a woman she trusted. Moments later, the suspect cunningly convinced the woman to release the baby and vanished into the village.

Alarm spread like wildfire as residents mounted a frantic search. The baby’s father rushed to Nkandwa Police Station to report the shocking incident.
The turning point came when catechists from Nkandwa Catholic Parish noticed a young woman carrying a baby and appearing uneasy. Led by Brother Lulangwa Andrew, they stopped her and demanded answers.
Unable to explain where she had obtained the baby, the woman was arrested on the spot and handed over to police.
The suspect was later identified as Nalubega Catherine, 19, a resident of Kiwala–Kyeyagalire Village.
Baby Kemigisha was reunited with her parents in good health, sparking relief, tears and praise for the swift community response.
Kigozi praised the catechists and residents for their vigilance, warning parents to remain alert, especially in crowded public gatherings.
