A night of fun turned deadly in Lugongwe Trading Center, Kassanda District, when Ivan Ahimbisibwe, 30, the owner of E-Zone Bar and Lodges, was killed during a brawl over a woman.
Eyewitnesses say trouble started around 1 a.m. when Ahimbisibwe offered a beer to Namukisa Pofia, who was with her boyfriend, Murundi Fabrice. According to SSP Lameck Kigozi, the spokesman for Wamala Region, the enraged boyfriend dragged her away, and Ahimbisibwe followed. A fist fight erupted outside the bar, leaving Ahimbisibwe fatally injured.
His barmaids raised the alarm after he failed to return. The deceased’s body was later found in a bush with deep cuts on his face.
Kigozi says that the police moved quickly, arresting Murundi Fabrice at a clinic where he was receiving treatment for fight injuries, and Namukisa at her home. The deceased was taken to Kassanda Health Center IV for a post-mortem.
Kigozi says police are investigating and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
