A dark cloud has fallen over the family of a woman allegedly linked to the former Buganda Katikkiro Joseph Balikuddembe Walusimbi as his daughter.

Babirye Lydia, was recovered from a suspect’s house days after she was kidnapped.

Babirye, 52, a resident of Kigowa in Ntinda, disappeared on June 4, leaving relatives worried about her whereabouts.

Their fears deepened when unknown people reportedly used her phone to contact family members and demand UGX 19 million for her release.

As the family desperately hoped she would return home alive, a joint security team launched investigations and tracked down suspects believed to have been behind the kidnapping.

The breakthrough came when police arrested Ntege Abubakar in Nateete. During interrogation, detectives say he led them to his home in Kiteredde Village, Kakiri Town Council.

What investigators found there was heartbreaking.

Babirye’s body was discovered in a decomposing state inside the house, wrapped in a mattress cover and tightly bound with ropes.

Even more disturbing was the discovery of a freshly dug grave within the compound, which police believe may have been prepared to secretly dispose of the body.

The discovery has shocked residents and family members, many of whom had been praying for Babirye’s safe return.

Police have since arrested two suspects, Kagga Shafiq and Ntege Abubakar, who remain in custody as investigations continue.

Speaking to journalists Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP deputy police spokesperson says that the suspects will be presented before the courts of law.
