The net is tightening around suspects linked to the shocking death of rugby player Sydney Gongodyo.
The Rugby star who has represented Uganda on a National Level fell to ill fate over the weekend when angry locals pounced on him, accusing him of grabbing a bag from an unidentified woman. Gongodyo was battered harshly with stones, huge logs, kicks and ruthless punches to a point of no return.
The Rugby cranes Star, 27, is being laid to rest on June 09, 2026 at his ancestral home in Sironko district in Eastern Uganda.
Gongodyo’s death experience was loud and so have neitezns been about circumstances surrounding his demise and cries for justice. The public has stamped his innocence in the theft allegations and security bodies like the Uganda police have condemned the act of mob justice on the Rugby star, in addition to netting the heartless people who hurled stones and hit him to his death, on that fateful day, in the broad day light.

Police confirm that they have arrested five more people over the alleged mob attack that claimed Gongodyo’s life on June 5, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to eight.
The latest suspects rounded up are Ssebagala Noordin, Ayebazibwe Roden, Namukose Juliet, Mondoni Elly, Twinomujuni Herbert, Katsigazi Perigrino, Tayebwa Darlious and Tugume Hannington.
Police says that investigations are far from over and more arrests could follow as they continue hunting for other individuals believed to have taken part in the deadly attack.
Infact, police have vowed that everyone involved will be tracked down and brought before court.
The death of Gongodyo remains adeep shock to the sporting community, with fellow athletes, fans and friends demanding justice for the fallen rugby star.
Police say the hunt for additional suspects is ongoing and has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
“All those responsible will be brought to justice,” police said as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal mob action.
