Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, MP for Nakawa West, has officially submitted the Opposition Shadow Cabinet to Parliament, unveiling a full team of MPs tasked with shadowing government ministries in the 12th Parliament.
The Shadow Cabinet will see Opposition MPs assigned to different ministries where they will scrutinise government work, challenge ministers, and present alternative policy positions on national issues.
Ssenyonyi said the team is meant to strengthen accountability and ensure tighter oversight of government operations across all sectors.
The lineup brings together MPs from NUP, FDC, DP, ANT, UPC, PFF, and Independents, reflecting a broad Opposition coalition.
Key appointments include Hon. Nakwedde Harriet as Deputy Chief Opposition Whip and Shadow Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Ssebina Gyaviira for Finance, Hon. Sewungu Gonzaga for Defence, and Hon. Sheila Amaniiyo for Information and Anti-Corruption.
Other notable assignments see Hon. Dr. Timothy Lusala Batuwa take Health, Hon. Kaluya Andrew Kiiza handle Education, Hon. Naluyima Betty in charge of Gender and Labour, and Hon. Sekabira Denis overseeing Internal Affairs.
Hon. Kasule Ismail will handle Trade and Industry, Hon. Lukanga Moses Musanje takes Energy and Minerals, Hon. Kuteesa Patrick is assigned Agriculture, while Hon. Karim Masaba will oversee Cooperatives and Microfinance.
In foreign affairs, Hon. Alobo Joan Acom takes charge, while Hon. Kiiza Hakim will shadow EAC Affairs. Hon. Okello Patrick Onguti will handle Local Government, and Hon. Zahara Luyirika takes KCCA affairs.
The list also includes Hon. Asinansi Nyakato for Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Jalamese for Tourism, Hon. Jamal Mukwe for Water and Environment, Hon. Kaps Fungaroo for Human Rights, and Hon. Abdullah Kiwanuka as Shadow Justice Minister.
Hon. Zambali Bulasio will handle Sports, Hon. Hussein Muyonjo takes Culture and Performing Arts, while Hon. Luyimbazi Nalukoola has been named Shadow Attorney General.
The Opposition says the Shadow Cabinet will play a key role in holding Government accountable and shaping policy debates as Parliament settles into its new term.
