Police in Kampala have launched investigations into another mob attack linked involving to fraud that ended with the death of a suspect in Kiwatule.
According to police mouthpiece Kituuma Rusoke, the case was reported at Kiwatule Police Station after events that happened around 6:30pm in Nakawa Division in early June 2026.
It is alleged that the suspect, identified as Fahad Lubega, posed as a property agent online and engaged a client through the Jiji platform in a rental deal for a house in Kyanja.
Kituuma says the client was shown the property and an agreement was reached at 3 million shillings per month, with a total payment of 12 million shillings allegedly deposited into a DTB Bank account provided by the suspect.
However, confusion reportedly arose when the client revisited the property on 2nd June and was told by the caretaker that the house was not for rent but for sale.
The client later learned the suspect was at a bank and rushed there, but the man allegedly slipped away before returning to collect change from a 50,000 shilling note, at which point an attempt to arrest him was made.
He explains that the suspect fled, only to run into a mob that allegedly attacked him, beating him to a pulp.
Officers later picked him up and rushed him to the station, where he appeared weak and was taken for medical attention, but later died.
Police say investigations are now underway into both the alleged fraud and the mob attack that led to his death.
Kituuma noted that earlier communication on the case had errors.
He has again condmened acts of mob justice on suspects.
This incident comes as the public continues to demand justice for National Rugby star Sydney Gongodyo who was also attacked and beaten to death on allegations of theft.
