A shocking abortion scandal has hit Kajjere Village in Kiboga District after police recovered the body of a female fetus dumped in a pit latrine and arrested a 17-year-old girl believed to be the mother.

The teenager was picked up after residents who knew she was pregnant became suspicious when her pregnancy suddenly disappeared.

Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Region Police Spox says the girl later admitted that the pregnancy had been terminated with the help of her mother, sister and a local medical worker.

According to lameck, the abortion-inducing drugs were given to the teenager twice before she expelled the fetus at around 2:00am on June 16.

The fetus was allegedly dumped in a pit latrine belonging to a village resident before the matter was reported to police.

Detectives visited the scene, retrieved the fetus and launched investigations.

The case has taken another twist after the girl’s mother, sister and the suspected medical worker reportedly disappeared from the area and are now being hunted by police.

Some residents claim family tensions may have played a role in the events leading up to the abortion, though police have not officially linked those allegations to the case.

Police have warned that anyone involved in procuring unlawful abortions or disposing of newborns and fetuses illegally faces prosecution under the law.

Police say efforts to track down the three fugitive suspects are ongoing.
