Police in the Kampala Metropolitan have netted more than 500 suspects during a joint security operation targeting crime hotspots in and around Nateete.

The operation, conducted by officers from the Nateete, Katwe and Kajjansi policing divisions, covered areas including Nsangi, Katwe, Kajjansi and surrounding communities following a reported increase in cases of robbery, motorcycle theft, mobile phone theft, burglary and other related crimes.

According to police, the intelligence-led operation was aimed at disrupting criminal networks and apprehending individuals suspected to be involved in various offences.

During the crackdown, officers recovered several exhibits, including suspected opium, pangas, suspected miraa and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

The suspects were arrested on allegations including possession of narcotic substances, public nuisance and possession of offensive weapons in public without lawful authority.

Police said all the suspects remain in custody as they undergo screening before being taken through the next stages of the legal process.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the operations are part of continued efforts to restore security and deal with individuals involved in criminal activities within the region.
