General Summary


The Clinical Officer will provide the diagnosis, treatment, and clinical management services for Drug-Resistant (DR) TB patients in line with national and international guidelines. The role includes monitoring treatment outcomes, referring complicated cases, participating in quality improvement, and contributing to community awareness and staff education efforts to improve clinical outcomes and reduce TB/HIV vulnerability.


Key Responsibilities



  • Diagnose, treat, and manage TB and DR-TB patients in accordance with national treatment protocols and guidelines

  • Review treatment progress of patients, identify clinical issues, and implement corrective actions to improve outcomes

  • Refer complex or non-responsive cases to the Senior Clinical Officer for further management

  • Participate in the delivery of integrated primary health care services, including TB/HIV collaborative activities

  • Contribute to health data collection, analysis, and timely reporting for decision-making and program performance monitoring

  • Educate patients, staff, and community members on TB, HIV, and other related health conditions to reduce stigma and promote prevention

  • Adhere to professional codes of conduct and medical ethics in all aspects of clinical practice

  • Compile and submit accurate, timely, and complete periodic clinical and programmatic reports

  • Provide tailored health education and counseling aimed at reducing patients’ vulnerability to TB, HIV, and related infections

  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical service delivery and patient outcomes

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, laboratory personnel, and community health workers, to ensure comprehensive patient care


Academic Qualifications


A diploma in clinical medicine. Additional training in DR-TB management is an added advantage


Person Specification


A diploma in clinical medicine. Additional training in DR-TB management is an added advantage.


A minimum of one year’s work experience in DR-TB management


Ability to operate independently with limited direct supervision of day-to-day activities


Strong oral and written communication skills are required to


Demonstrated experience in onsite training and QI coaching approaches


Demonstrated capacity in building and maintaining productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders.
