Role Overview:


The Midwife is responsible for providing antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to women, in collaboration with the imaging center's obstetric ultrasound and diagnostic services. The role emphasizes patient education, maternal health monitoring, and coordination with medical officers and imaging technologists.


Key Responsibilities:


Antenatal Care:



  • Conduct antenatal assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and monitoring of maternal and fetal well-being.

  • Order and interpret routine obstetric imaging (ultrasound) in collaboration with radiologists and imaging technologists.

  • Provide health education on nutrition, breastfeeding, family planning, and danger signs during pregnancy.


Patient Support & Coordination:



  • Prepare and support women undergoing obstetric ultrasound examinations.

  • Coordinate care between midwifery services, medical officers, and imaging staff.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, including antenatal cards and clinical notes.


Postnatal & Family Planning:



  • Provide postnatal assessments and support for mothers and newborns.

  • Offer family planning counseling and services as per national guidelines.

  • Educate patients on postpartum recovery, infant care, and immunization schedules.


Qualifications & Experience:



  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Midwifery from a recognized institution.

  • Registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) with a valid practicing license.

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical midwifery experience, including antenatal and postnatal care.

  • Experience in obstetric ultrasound support or interpretation is an advantage.


Competencies:



  • Strong clinical skills in maternal and newborn care.

  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach.

  • Excellent communication and counseling skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
