Background
YIDA Youth Initiative is a refugee-led NGO committed to providing quality education and fostering financial inclusion for refugees in the Kyaka II settlement. Since its inception in 2013, YIDA has evolved to empower communities through education, economic self-reliance, and social inclusion.
YIDA is looking for qualified workers to fill the following position in Kyaka Kyegegwa District.
Position Summary
The Primary School Teacher will provide quality education to learners, ensuring the delivery of an engaging, inclusive, and safe learning environment. The teacher will focus on holistic child development, including academic, social, and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning
- Prepare and deliver lessons in accordance with the Uganda Primary School Curriculum.
- Utilize diverse teaching methods to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities.
- Foster a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation and creativity.
- Support learners in acquiring foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking.
- Learner Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Conduct regular assessments to evaluate learner progress and identify learning gaps.
- Provide constructive feedback to learners and develop strategies for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of learners’ academic performance and attendance.
- Classroom Management
- Ensure a safe and disciplined classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Promote inclusive practices, respecting the cultural and linguistic diversity of learners.
- Manage classroom resources effectively, ensuring they are used appropriately.
- Child Protection and Safeguarding
- Adhere to YIDA’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Monitor learners for signs of distress or abuse and report concerns promptly.
- Create a safe space where learners feel respected, valued, and protected.
- Parental and Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about their children’s progress and well-being.
- Organize and participate in parents’ meetings and school events to promote engagement.
- Encourage community involvement in school activities to foster a supportive learning environment.
- Professional Development
- Attend training sessions and workshops organized by YIDA to enhance teaching skills.
- Stay updated on best practices in primary education and apply them in the classroom.
- Participate in teacher peer review sessions and capacity-building programs.
- Extra-Curricular Activities
- Support learners in participating in sports, arts, and other co-curricular activities.
- Organize and oversee events such as inter-class competitions and Education Day celebrations.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Minimum of a Grade III Teacher Certificate or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Additional training in child-centered teaching methodologies is an advantage.
Experience:
- Experience in teaching P.7 class is an added advantage
- Experience working in refugee or resource-constrained settings is highly desirable.
- Teaching Mathematics upper primary is an additional advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong classroom management and teaching skills.
- Passionate about working with children and committed to their development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to diverse cultural and linguistic contexts.
- Proficiency in using basic digital tools for teaching and reporting is an added advantage.
