We have worked in Uganda since 1986, in partnership with the Government of Uganda, national and local NGOs. Together, WHH runs programmes in six sub-regions; West Nile, Karamoja, Teso; Central, Rwenzori and Southwestern. Our programmes focus on strengthening food systems and nutrition, climate resilience, economic empowerment and youth skills development, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), as well as women’s empowerment, ending gender-based violence (GBV) and promotion of gender equality and social inclusion, and humanitarian response.

Responsibilities or duties
- Raise WASH profile of target area by implementing relevant approaches to improve hygiene and sanitation effectively.
- Strongly mobilize the community about WASH prospectus through regular field visits.
- Conduct quality health, hygiene and sanitation sessions in communities to ensure that target populations are mobilized and adequately informed regarding health and hygiene issues related to water supply, sanitation and solid waste disposal.
- Conduct training of selected community activists, for instance VHTs, Hygiene promoters, opinion leaders and teachers, to enable them to conduct onward sessions to target communities.
- Promote WASH Clubs in Schools, using participative approaches.
- Link WASH to other sectors, such as education and nutrition.
- Promote campaigns for family latrines.
- Form and train Water user Committees.
- Promote waste management activities.
- Promote Menstrual Hygiene Management among girls and women in the community and schools.
- Participate in coordination meetings within WHH, partners, interagency plus on District and Sub-County level (in agreement with their supervisor).
- Represent WHH in meetings and conferences, if designed by their superior.
- Organize WASH related events effectively and efficiently
- Support, on request of the Supervisors, WASH activities of WHH outside of the project area.
- Implement the agreed work plan, as far as the Employee is addressed, by quality performance and according to the time planning.
- Support the elaboration of visibility measures and the accompanying communication channels
- Support the technical team in their project-related work and the reporting duties in particular
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- University Degree in public health, social science, community development or other relevant field(s)
- Good command of English. Knowledge of local languages, e.g. Ateso and/or Nga ’Karamojong are an asset
- Able to work in difficult conditions, independently and in a team.
- Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills are very important
- Experience in community mobilization, training and use of participatory methodologies
- Experience in supervising and mentoring other staff
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Valid motorcycle riding permit
- Team player with high integrity and honesty.
Experience needed
- At least 3 years of practical hands – on experience in water treatment and supply, sanitation, public health.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of 5 Months. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Katakwi, Uganda. The position is paid according to SG4.
